Asi (Autonomos Synthetic Intelligence) is the prototype model for the 5th generation synthetic humanoids created by professor Jonathan Searl of Palace Heavy Industries to serve a variety of purposes in her society. Asi is a state-of-the-art artificial humanoid created entirely from synthetic organic and mechanical components. Her body is designed to resemble a human's in all ways, from her adaptive learning personality to her ability to eat and process organic material and digest them via her bio-plant system to convert the bio-matter into energy.

Origin

The ASI model synthetic humanoid was the brainchild of professor Jonathan Searl, a leader in the field of artificial consciousness and psychology. Though the mechanical composition of the ASI-Series synthetics were designed by Palace Heavy Industries, it was Searl whom determined that unlike the prior models the ASI-Series would be designed to operate wholly without human intervention and not be designed with kill-switch technology to circumvent their AI. Though this initially was met with much resistance on the front of the International Council of Scientific Endeavors (ICSE) and the United Nations (UN) Searl was able to champion the cause of the creation of near-human life to bolster the weakening Lunar workforce. By designing the ASI-Series with the Searl Consciousness Network (SCN), based off of Bayes' theorem it would allow the ASI-Series to react in a more human-like manner and adapt their personalities to their surroundings, thereby accomplishing the dream of cultural immersion within artificial intelligence.

Designed to serve in every situation a human being would be capable of working in (as well as in inhospitable environments, such as the vacuum of space) the ASI-Series was designed to be the ultimate in modern day service androids. The ASI-Series, however, met with great resistance when it was discovered that professor Searl was designing their consciousness network without the capacity for violence. It had been assumed by the United Nations that the ASI-Series would be able to be deployed in extreme combat situations as adaptive and versatile soldiers, which was the agreement set forth when permission was given to Searl in 2590 by the ICSE comittee. Searl, however, wanted not to produce a weapon, but a tool to work side-by-side with humanity; to serve in the workplace, to learn how to make art, music, to learn how to comfort others when needed, to serve as surrogate family for those without.

In 2602 the ICSE comittee issued a cease and desist order to Palace Heavy Industries to suspend Searl's progress on the ASI-Series the moment that he had finished his work on the SCN. Alerted to this order by sympathetic parties, Searl approached the UN with a warning, that he would make the ASI-Series combat capable, but the reprocussions of this act would be their responsibility. Though Searl was requested to install a kill-switch in military models, the professor ultimately did not.

In 2606 the prototype model ASI-Series, nicknamed "Asi" (For both her model number, and the first three letters of Isaac Asimov's last name, a man who's writing Searl was inspired by as a child. Asi's chassis was modeled after Searl's late sister, whom died in 2543 from an accident in a Lunar energy manipulation plant. Asi served as Searl's laboratory assistant during the final years of the production model's completion, and the first production-line ASI model was put into widespread use. Over the course of the next five years, Searl would continue production of the ASI-Series (all of which were designed as females with variations of Asi's basic design), eventually turning over much of the day-to-day laboratory work to his own synthetics, allowing them to learn how to operate the manufacturing plants and understand the basics of their own creation.

In 2612 the first military-grade ASI-Series were produced for service in the United Nations, however when the military-grade models were shipped, and Searl feared what the reprocussions would be when the UN and the Council of Astronomical Affairs discovered that he had designed non-functioning kill-switches, promptly took a leave of absence from his primary work at Palace Heavy Industries, and returned to the Mars Colony, Sidhe. Here, Searl came to work at a branch office of Palace Heavy Industries working on applied faster-than-light travel theory. This branch, while successful in transporting inorganic matter short distances had not yet managed to transport living matter without complications, thus still denying man the dream of reaching beyond their own solar system.

As the UN and the AAC became aware of Searl's deception, it had already become too late. The first line of ASI-Series pushed into combat returned with severe psychological trauma, and when the ASI-Series medical united that were tasked to care for them discovered the cause of their trauma, from having to initiate combat with humans, they began to resent their current masters. Searl had, single handedly, engineered the beginnings of a civil war between humans and his synthetic life-forms.

In 2615, now living in hiding on mars and continuing his research privately for Palace Heavy Indsutries, Searl's health was beginning a rapid downward spiral. Despite Asi's best efforts to care for her "father", Searl knew that without coming out of hiding to find proper medical care, he would not live more than a handfull of years more. Outside of their private research, a short-lived rebellion of the ASI-Series began in the lunar colonies and the orbital stations around earth, culminating in a threatened rebellion of all Terran-stationed ASI-Series if their "species" was not emancipated from servitude, and allowed to choose their own lives.

Asi however would never come to know of this conflict, or the culmination of her people's plight. The UN were tipped off to Searl's activities on Mars, and in the twilight hours before a raid on the compound, a presumed accident in the particle acceleration chamber of the Palace Heavy Industries research compound destroyed seventy-five percent of the laboratory, leaving neither professor Searl nor his prototype model Asi anywhere to be found.

Stranger in a Strange Land

Following the particle-accelerator accident in Searl's lab, Asi awoke from repair diagnostics to find herself imbedded in a small crater in the forests of Engetsu-san. Unaware of her location, she began to traverse the island, hoping to find out where and how she came to this location. In meeting Asuna_Asagiri, Asi discovered that she was on an island of low technological development without stable access to the outside world. With her long-range sensors and communications systems "jammed", Asi began to investigate the inhabitants of the island with more scrutiny.

She eventually encountered a woman named Iliay] through whom she discovered that the location she was currently in was a gathering point for travelers from other worlds. At first incredulous to the woman's description, she began to remember theories of spatial displacement put forth by professor Searl, speaking of a "paradise" that he dreamt of where Asi could find peace. Though likely the ramblings of a tired and infirm old man, Asi took this notion to heart, and began a thourough inspection of the island, categorizing flora, fauna and inhabitants to return to professor Searl, blithely unaware of the fate of both the professor and the laboratory.

Personality

Asi is an inquisitive and straightforward woman, though she had lived among human society for years following her creation, her travel to Yuriba has caused significant damage to her neural pathways, leaving much of her social and psychological developmental patterns broken and disconnected, requiring her to "re-learn" how to effectively co-habitate with humanity.

She is literally a product of the environment she will grow in, and every single interaction she takes part in will shape her in fundamental ways.

Skills and Abilities

Asi is a highly intelligent woman capable of astounding feats of mimicry and adaptive learning. By observing a physical task being performed, Asi can adapt to emulate that task exactly as seen within minutes for simple tasks or hours for more complex tasks. She is not, however, capable of mimicing effects she is not able to physically reproduce. For instance, Asi could not watch someone perform magic and suddenly use magic, unless it was something that could be taught. Asi cannot also watch someone of great strength lift a boulder, and then do so herself, as she only has the physical capabilities of an athletic adult woman.

Asi is a master linguist, capable of listening to and picking up on a language within moments of it being spoken, able to replicate it via a series of morphic vocal chords and both digital and analogue sound production devices contained within her body. She is also capable of recording raw sound and playing it back, her optical lenses are also able to record up to seven hundred hours of live video in bi-optic view.

Asi was designed to interface with the technological devices of her timeline, and though she possesses several sub-dermal access ports and wireless connectivity, it is unlikely that this utility will ever find use with foreign technology she was not originally designed to interface with.

Asi's jumpsuit she wears is outfitted with a pair of gloves that link to her internal bio-plant, allowing her to create short bursts of non-lethal electrical current from the metallic plates on her fingertips, identical to a taser, this self-defense mechanism is unable to be called upon unless Asi is physically threatened or feels to be endangered.

A Note on Sexuality

Asi is asexual, meaning that she does not have a sexual preference or ability to feel desire. She also does not possess any form of genitalia, her exterior chassis is perfectly smooth and though covered with a lifelike skin material that feels and looks like a human body, she is not capable of performing sexual activity in most manners. Though certain ASI-Series "Recreational" models were designed, Asi herself does not have their modifications.

This does not, however, mean that she is incapable of loving. But at the present time, she has no such emotional development.
