Physical Description

General

This young woman is possessed of a certain lithe, exotic beauty. Her skin is a glistening onyx color, the thin limbs and shoulders hiding a well-muscled physique that is evident only when she moves. Despite her short stature and soft, youthful appearance, she carries herself with a sort of understated confidence that could almost be called arrogance. Her hair is glistening white, streaming down around her shoulders like a massive snowfall, hiding all but the tips of a long, pair of pointed ears, and obscuring a air of glittering red eyes.

Style

Those familiar with the drow of other worlds may well be surprised to meet Faeryl. Far from the bondage mail that other drow women favor, she prefers human fashions. Having grown up largely integrated into (meta)human culture, Faeryl favors elegant, attractive looks to suit the occasion or mood. Her wardrobe is extensive, and runs the gamut from the functional to the fantastic. Her two favorite looks seem to be utilitarian street clothes or an elegant yet understated business suit. She wears little jewelry, save for a silver chain with a pair of dog tags inscribed in drow writing. The only other constants are a pair of slick, red-lensed glasses, and a strange, computerized bracer rendered in the form of a spider grasping her forearm. The whole unit is slender enough to slip easily under a suit jacket sleeve, however.

Personality

Faeryl’s personality owes a lot to her strange circumstances. Though born in a dark elf city, surrounded by dark elven values, her transportation and integration into the population of Paragon City and its teeming horde of heroes has altered her outlook… somewhat. Though many of the worst aspects of the drow mentality are blunted or even absent in Faeryl, she is, at her heart, still a dark elf. Though not twisted by the same standards drow are normally judged by, Faeryl considers drow the superior race, though she is polite, urbane and conscientious enough to keep her opinions private for the most part. She is charismatic and courteous, possessed of a magnetism that draws people in, despite her sometimes sinister appearance. However, despite the front she provides, her ultimate youth often shows through, making her curious about the world around her and leaving her more likely to connect with others on a more equal basis. Indeed, this curiosity, and her exposure to the scientific learning of her adopted world has developed her into a bit of an absent-minded theorist, and she sometimes forgets herself when her attention is grabbed by something which interests her, pursuing it with an amusing doggedness.

Biography

Early Life

Originally born in the great drow city of Menzoberranzan, under the earthy skin of Aber-Toril, Faeryl was only a child when some magical mishap drew her small neighborhood through the dimensions to Paragon City, Rhode Island, on an alternate Earth just before World War II. About this time, that world started to become populated by people with strange powers which set them apart from the common man. So when he United States government took the dimension-flung drow into custody, the wiser among the dark elves quickly came to the conclusion that if they wanted to save their skins, integration was the only way to go. Thus it was that little Faeryl was given the benefit of a human education… with all the benefits of a drow’s aging. As the drow of Paragon City devoted their resources to fitting in and making themselves powerful, Faeryl was learning medicine, law, and science. Of course, she was also learning how to kill with a touch in the right spot with her fingertips, as well as intrusion methods and the catechisms of the Spider Goddess.

All perfectly standard and above-board for a fine, upstanding dark elf.

By the seventies, Faeryl was an accomplished individual by human standards, and quite phenomenal by those of the drow, considering that she was still very much a child in drow years. During the Vietnam years, Faeryl signed on for service, the odd makeup of that world permitting female soldiers. After completing several tours of duty under harsh conditions, she was promoted and pulled into certain ‘black’ projects involving recent discoveries of dimensional portals around the world. As a scientist as well as a soldier, Faeryl participated in countless experiments involving these portals, and helped to devise both technology and magics to help use them. Following her initial work in dimensional science, the young Faeryl pulled herself back to her world to reflect on what all she had done.

By the time of the Rikti invasion thirty years later, Faeryl was a respected member of many communities, legal, medical, scientific, as well as a major public figure. As the golden child of the ranking Priestess and her consort, Faeryl was held in high esteem (and envy) by her peers among the dark elves. And so much of her work over the thirty years between the seventies and the early 21st century involved weathering Dark Elven politics and serving the Goddess in her own way.

Following the invasion, many dimensional portals and pathways were discovered, and so Faeryl was back in business as a portal-diver. Using her expertise on such matters, she spends much of her time exploring various planes and realities, which is how she came across Yuriba.

Yuriba

Faeryl found Yuriba on one of her personal jaunts through the cosmos, and the part of her that has grown fond of life as led among non-drow has taken to the island. When not working on some personal project or lecture, or to some scheme or other, Faeryl can often be found somewhere around the island, and seems to be considering putting down roots for a place of her own.

For a young drow, Faeryl is extremely knowledgeable in many mundane disciplines, as well as arcane magic. However, according to her, the magical energies on Yuriba differ vastly from what she is personally attuned to, leaving her unable to use the majority of her most powerful abilities, save for the ability to conjure light balls and a patch of darkness. She has never been seen to use anything beyond this on Yuriba,

Unable to rely on magical means, Faeryl relies on her knowledge of dimensions to move from Yuriba to her adopted home in Paragon City, using the technology of the Tactical Computer in her bracer to guide her unerringly.
