Gildedsides

Gildedsides are a form of saltwater fish seen exclusively in coastal waters. They can be found mainly around the mouth of Yuriba River and around Maboroshi. Gildedsides are easily distinguished by their long, thin bodies and by the platinum-gold colour of their scales. It is this colour that earned them their name.

They are mainly found in the nutrient-rich environment created by the roots of Yuriban Mangroves, but they also commonly frequent the dock supports at Phantasm Harbor, though only at high tide. It has been theorized that the Gildedsides' colouring comes from actual gold flecks in the water, signifying a vein of gold nearby, though there is no basis to this particular theory; it is additionally unlikely given that no other Yuriban fish shows this distinctive pigmentation. This has not stopped amateur treasure-hunters from attempting to pan for gold in the waters the gildedsides inhabit.

In captivity, a gildedside's scales fade and become grey and dull. It does not make a difference if they are kept in water identical to that which they normally live in; their scales still fade within a week. It is this fact that continues to drive the theory that gildedsides live in water near gold deposits.
