Katherine Norina McAndrews (a.k.a Kitten) is one of Yuriba's resident catgirls. Unlike many who gained their feline nature by the means of a magical spring, Kitten is actually a naturally born Nekomimi, or Nekomusume.

She is famed for being one of the very few who has managed to bring the colossal Amazon, Ta'lset, to her knees in battle. Another thing worth mentioning is that she is overly fascinated, if not completely obsessed, with the thought of mastering every weapon in the world. Fancying herself a descendant of Vikings, she lives by the ideal that only those who die in battle will be allowed to enter Valhalla. This rather high ambition does not stop her from behaving in the carefree and playful manner most feline creatures are famous for.

General Information

Kitten lives by the saying "Curiosity never killed the cat", while not completely accurate, it works rather fine for her. While she is a healthy adult young woman at twenty years, she still acts in an incredibly childish manner, often playing pranks on newcomers and long-time residents alike. It is certainly not unheard of that someone taking a walk suddenly feels a hand on their rear, only to find no one in the vicinity when they turn around in panic.

Background

It is impossible to guess from her presonality and her appearance, but Kitten is, in fact, nobility of sorts. She grew up as the second child and only daughter of Elias Arthur McAndrews and Malin McAndrews of the Clan McAndrews. While the roots for the clan are, as might be easily guessed, of Scotish origin, this particular branch is located in central Scandinavia.

As the clan is magical, it was no big surprise that Kitten came to be born as half cat, half human. What did come as a surprise though, and a disappointment to her parents, was the fact that, other than her appearance, Kitten had no innate magical abilities whatsoever. The clan puts a very large value on magical skills and so, because of her lack of magic, Kitten became a bit of an outcast among her fellow clansmen.

Her direct family still loved her dearly though, despite this. Her father would spoil her every chance he got, at least when her mother wasn't looking. Malin McAndrews had always been considered the highest authority of the household, and a strict one at that, even her husband was afraid to go against her. Kitten's mother always prompted, and sometimes even forced, her to act and behave like a "proper lady", something that went directly against Kitten's nature. Rebellious to the very core, Kitten would often sneak away from her tutors to play with her older brother or to explore the vast myriads of cathacombs hidden beneath their mansion, and most of those little escapedes ended with her getting a half-hearted scolding from her father and a spanking from her mother.

Being the way she was, Kitten was forced to live a rather sheltered life as a child until one day she downright demanded to be allowed to go to a normal school, rather than be tutored by servants. She wanted to get out of the house and meet people and get friends. She even locked herself in her room and refused to talk to anyone until her parents finally succumbed to her wishes and let her attend school in a nearby city. Of course, she had to hide her ears and tail carefully, something that prevented her from ever parttaking in gym-classes. Being a very energetic girl, such restrictions were like torture to Kitten.

She still managed to get by and enjoy school, despite this. Being so full of energy helped her gaining the friendship of many of the children around her, but there was only one girl whom she decided to call her very best friend; the girl who accidentally found about about Kitten's hidden ears and tail. Kitten was at first horrified that someone had found out and she was afraid that she'd be hated, only she wasn't. The girl just smiled and told her that Kitten's appearance was "cool".

As the years went by, Kitten gradually felt her fondness for her friend grow stronger and stronger until she could no longer contain it. Gathering up her courage, she confessed her love for her friend, convinced that she would feel the same.

But she didn't.

The girl was actually disgusted with Kitten's love for her, so disgusted, in fact, that she "unmasked" Kitten in front of a large part of the student body. Hurt and abandoned, Kitten left the school in tears. In a fit of desperation, she ran straight home and gathered a few possessions before running away from home that very night. Her journey out into the world began...

Three years later, a small boat drifted ashore on a small island off the shore of Japan, carrying with it a very different young woman than the one who ran away from home.

Relations

Ever since arriving on Yuriba, Kitten has made herself a great number of friends, acquaintances, and even a few enemies. One whom she considers among her closest friends is the fellow catgirl Neiko, the first one she felt she could get close to. Neiko's heart seemed to lie elsewhere though and so Kitten felt that their relationship could never reach the heights she would have liked it to.

She's made many other friends, though most of them never really prompted any romantic felings in Kitten, save perhaps the angel, Seiko. Kitten formed a rather strange bond with the Amazon, Tal'set. Like the tall woman, Kitten has considered herself a fighter ever since she ran away from home and many a days people could her the bangs and explosions from Tal'set's dojo as the two had their "friendly" spars. Kitten even earned the nickname "Puppet-master woman", from the Amazon.

Another person worth mentioning is Kitten's most recent master; yumiko, the seasoned fox-woman being the one currently teaching her to master the Japanese sword through the art of Iaido. While Kitten has always been eager to learn new skills and master new weapons, Yumiko's lessons always leaves her body exhausted and her ego bruised. Yumiko seems to take great joy in making poor Kitten feel small and helpless, having even created a form of punishment fro whenever the catgirl arrives late or skips out of training, a horrible punishment called "The Blank". No one has thus far uncovered the truth behind this punishment though.

The Noble House of McAndrews

The history of the McAndrews clan goes back centuries to when a group of magical beings managed to integrate themselves into Scotish nobility. No one really knows what kind of creatures they were, only that they could discuise themselves as normal humans, as the blood of other houses of magical beings have been mixed with theirs. Over the years, the clan grew over the years and spread all over the world, marrying into other familias to create branches of what today has become known as one of the largest Magical houses in history, hidden from the eyes of common people.

As the blood of the family has been mixed with that of other magical beings as well as humans, the children born in the recent era are all born magical in some form or the other. Some may be born with the powers of witches, others might be skilled in druidic practices, there is no way to tell what sort of powers a child will be born with. As a rule being written two centuries ago, a McAndrews clansman is not allowed to marry a normal human, they must marry another magical being. These marriages are mostly arranged and it is seldom that a bride has ever met her groom even before the wedding. Kitten would eventually have been forced into one of these marriages, had she not run away from home.

Family Members

Malin McAndrews (Mother) The matriarch of the Scandinavian branch. She's feared and respected for her pyromantic magic. She may seem stoic and strict but she can be very sweet and caring.

Elias Arthur McAndrews (Father) Elias was quite the adventurer in his youth and many said that he'd never settle down but then he met Kitten's mother who managed to tame the beast, so to speak. He can controll wind, to a degree.

Fenrir McAndrews (Elder brother) Kitten's beloved older brother was born with a rather unfortunate magical ability, or curse. From the day he was born, he has been suffering from Lyncatrophy, meaning that he is a werewolf. Kitten's life may have been secluded, but Fenrir was barely ever allowed out of the house. During every full moon, he would turn into a vicious beast and only his mother could calm his raging heart. She would sit with him on the balcony, caring for his hair as they basked in the moonlight.

Elena Anderson (Cousin) Kitten's cousin and personal bodyguard. Her parents died when she was very young and so Kitten's newly-wed parents took her in. Being both Kitten as well as Fenrir's senior by several years, Elena was often tasked with babysitting her cousins. Later, she was even given the title as Bodyguard over the problematic Kitten. Her devotion to the House is so great that she even tracked her charge to Yuriba, attempting to drag her home. Kitten managed to persuade her into letting her stay, granted that she sent her mother's regular letters to tell her how she was.
