Lanhanyannichuan

Lanhanyannichuan or, as it is sometimes known, the "Slug-Girl" spring, is a spring that is rumored to exist in Silverbough with different transformative properties than the standard Jusenkyou Springs. It inflicts a gruesome transformation upon the user that not even the Clear Spring could purify.

History

During the early years of the village there was a vicious gang of troublemakers that would graffiti buildings and ruin public works projects. They stole from temples and mugged new immigrants to the island. Because Yuriba had no police force (the Lily Blades would not be formed for some time) and the intense unease that the native population had with some of the more magically inclined or combat ready, there was little anyone could do to stop them on a permanent basis.

Finally after discussing with some of the native leaders, the budding village council had these trouble makers apprehended after the gang defaced a small shrine. To set an example for others the solidarity between native and immigrant they cast them into the spring and looked on in horror at what they became.

The victims of the spring's curse (for it was not even a blessing in disguise) found that their legs had merged together and their bodies below the waist and become soft and pliant. They could only move slowly on one ugly slug-like foot, leaving a trail of slime behind them. They had difficulty traversing the village and wilderness, likewise being a slug brought quite a bit of social stigma. Recanting their crimes and pledging to behave, they went to the council. The council was unable to undo the curse however. Upon learning this the troublemakers fled into the woods and were never heard from again. After several accidents involving the spring, it was decided that it should be warded and made to appear hidden so that no one would accidently fall into its waters or face them as punishment.

In different places around Silverbough, long trails of broken plantlife can be seen after a light morning rain.

Later it was found that priestesses of Fuyuzora and Harumeku at some risk to the participant is able to remove the curse if they worked in tandem.

Legitimacy

The founding of Yuriba is a time shrouded in chaos and mystery. While there are some residents that still remember the early days of the "modern" village, there is little evidence to prove that such a spring existed. Moreover Silverbough was not always as accessible. Likewise there are large mammals that could easily account for the long trails of plant damage - not to mention the oft mislead explorer.

Likewise, the effects of a spring are usually considered a blessing rather than curse, some argue the goddesses would never create a spring that did not do something useful for those that touched its waters. Sometimes though the underlying memory of Yuriba's darker history is spoken with hushed whispers by immigrants who believe that even goddesses might punish those who push them.
