Human

Humans are mammalian bipeds hailing from the world outside Yuriba. Though they number approximately six or seven billion individuals across over two hundred distinct nation-states they are a non-native species and are thus considered alien by the indigenous population of the island, though humanity does have some history in Yuriba's ancient past.

Physiology

The human is the base species for the category known as "humanoid" races, which includes such beings as catgirls, kitsune, demihumans, and many species of demons, among others. Most Yuriban natives are humanoid but not human.

Humans tend to be a wildly diverse species, with drastic variances in height, body structure, pigmentation, and facial features. Several ethnicities are represented among their species, distinguished by broad categories of pigmentation and body build. They follow a standard bipedal mammaloid build, with two legs, two arms, and a slight curve to the backbone. Distinguishing physical traits include the ear, which is rounded and unremarkable, and a distinct absence of tails, though humans do possess a tailbone. Human lifespans are relatively short compared to native races: they live naturally for about eighty to one hundred years.

Yuriban presence

Early human settlements

Humans are not a native species to Yuriba. They arrived on the island somewhere around six thousand years ago and founded the Lilian civilization, which flourished on Yuriba for about three thousand years, and later the ill-fated Toltraua civilization. While both of these cultures died out over five thousand years ago they have left behind scattered ruins and relics as testaments of their presence. The ruins of Ravensport are an excellent example of early Human relics left behind by this civilization.

Following the destruction of the Lily Civilization humans did not reside in Yuriba for five thousand years.

Modern era

The Founding Era saw the return of humans to Yuriba with the arrival of the human Phil-chan and the founding of the modern Yuriba Village. A wave of immigration followed, with human females (and a few males) coming to Yuriba to enjoy what was advertised as a hedonistic atmosphere of lesbian release. The steady immigration of humans to the island has not abated. Though they have mostly lived in harmony with the native cultures, many of them have developed a reputation as flightly and overly enthusiastic, and some natives hold humanity in contempt.

Demographics

As of the 2006 census humans make up 67.2% of Yuriba's population, making native Yuribans a minority in the face of an enormous immigrant population. Human culture has come to dominate much of the Yuriban social sphere, though a minority of humans have come to adopt Yuriban social and religious traditions. Human religious holidays are now celebrated by both the immigrant humans and the native peoples, and many human modes of art and architecture have come to influence native methods.
