Melit

Melit is a minor part of the Yuriban pantheon, goddess of metal and gemstones. She is strongly associated with childlike curiosity and crafting. Her existence was stricken from Yuriban texts sometime around the middle Lilian period for reasons unknown, some believe it may have been the goddess herself keeping knowledge of her low to encourage curiosity from the bits that are still there. Unlike most goddesses in the pantheon Melit's focus is not on nature but what people do with it's bounty - the artificial and handmade, making her possibly the youngest goddess of the pantheon. She is tertiarily related to Chikyuu.

Discovery

Melit was discovered through a series of events during The Hungry Others incident of 2015. A golden statue of her was dug up on Silverbough island by some curious residents with the strange property of magically enhancing buildings it was left within. Several months after this, an old text critiquing writings on apocryphal Yuriban religious texts was discovered by Belialtrix which confirmed existence of her following, further texts have been found to contain hints of the metalsmith, but seem purposely vague to encourage exploration and self-discovery. While the other discovered at the same time, Kigaki, is now considered little more than a boogeymonster and outside culture inspired story, further research has found older tales and more evidence, though piecemeal, for Melit's existence.

Associations

Melit's primary colors are brown, stone gray, and gold. She is associated with the creation of precious metals and gemstones on Yuriba, and placing them in hidden areas deep within the earth. She is said to be drawn to metal workers and explorers, finding joy in the creation of quality goods and curiosity. She is personified as a young girl in simple clothes that are often smudged or dirty. The now extinct Lillian Macaque and the monkey spring have been found to be associated with her as well, stories tying the animal to the goddess as a favored animal and helpers of hers, not unlike Zokutou and her Mourning Bats.

Lore

The most concrete bit of lore for Melit which has further solidified her existence, is the lore of her 'creation'. A tablet found within Chikyuu's temple detailed the story of the earth goddess traveling through a deep underground cave and finding a large vein of gold ore that glowed even within the depths. Curiosity urged Chikyuu to follow the glowing vein, which led her to find Melit deep within the earth, placing another glowing vein of ore. Looking up to Chikyuu as a sister, Melit is in something of a perpetual game of hide and seek with the older goddess, leaving hints and trails for Chikyuu's followers to find. However, she is so good at hiding that it resulted in her being forgotten for a period of time. Current theory holds that the eruption which destroyed the Lillian Civilization and caused her favored animal to die out also caused the young goddess to hide away from the world of mortals, which was why she was forgotten.

Status

With the now more permanent presence of the Village on the island, it's existence seems to have finally caught the eye of the young goddess and her curiosity. Reports from local metal and gem workers that there's been a recent uptick in the quality of found minerals and gems has been attributed to the rediscovery of the playful, curious lady.
