Torq Tuna

Torq Tuna are a strange looking species of tuna which ranges close to the island. They are a deeper water fish and prefer depths of at least seventy or eighty meters, often more. Reaching up to 180 cm in length at full size and up to fifteen kilograms, they can swim at up to thirty knots and are a particularly difficult catch. Going in large schools of fish that seem to have one mind, the Torq Tuna are known for making incredibly tight turns in little space at high speed when traveling in schools to throw off predators and seem to almost be flying in water. Known for their long green bodies and green tails and fins, they have large eyes for the darkness. Their schools in the deep water can number in the hundreds, but occasionally groups of them can be found off the main pier that have come foraging for easier food than the depths. A particularly strong and powerful swimmer, they are more than capable of yanking a fishing line on the rare occasions they have been hooked off the hands of an unprepared woman. Due to their size and the fact they are primarily a deep water fish, it is rare to hook them and one needs specialized bait and much patience. However, the fish's flesh is considered a delicacy, and popular at winter festivals when cooked with the right flavoring. They have a large fillet, and provide a great deal of meat, even for a fish their size.
