Wonderland

Wonderland is a term that has recently come into use by some Yuribans to describe a world where color and imagination are the primary and fundamental forces. Though not an accepted part of the Yuriban religion, the phrase, and even the place are becoming a more common occurrence due to the efforts of the Wildling Aurane and those who have shared in her madness.

OOC: from a Cheshire cat

Little Alice, so bereft: there's no back – you never left;
All the rhymes are still there waiting to be sung...

— Escape Key, "Girl That's Never Been"

This supposed place, though named after the Lewis Carroll creation, appears to be only passingly similar. Those who have been infected by the Wildling tell of seeing brief or sometimes permanent glimpses of a world just out of view or on top of this one. Accounts vary wildly as to what this world actually looks like, most of the time these conversations break down into a series of highly contrary or confusing descriptions. Adding to the skepticism of Wonderland is the fact that everyone who Aurane claims (or who claims themselves) to have been there never seem to have really left for anywhere at all. Consequently, going to Wonderland has become a slang term for being driven insane.

Despite this glaring inconsistency, there are those who allude to Wonderland perhaps being an actual place, or at least a metaphysical one. These arguments are often supported or mentioned by breisleach who has on more than one occasion been under Aurane's influence and sometimes mentioned cryptically by Sparta. The Wildling herself attests that Wonderland is an absolutely real place.

Wonderland and Butterflies

There seems to be a very powerful connection between the idea of Wonderland and its supposed messengers, namely butterflies. It is said that all butterflies know the way to Wonderland and can come and go freely, sometimes leading people along with them. This particular statement has never been proven.

Wonderland and the Mirror Phenomenon

Aurane holds that the way to see Wonderland is by breaking one's Mirror. Those who have been piecing together information agree that this is more than likely true, pending of course Wonderland even exists. Mirrors in Wonderland are reported to represent the 'gray', a world which is drab and without any sort of color or imagination. The Mirror reflects only the gray world, hiding the world of color. One the Mirror has been broken, it is said that the color of Wonderland can flow into a person changing their perspective to allow them to 'see' how to get there. This would mean that the Mirror acts as a form or perceptual prison.
