Ling is one of the more mysterious immigrants to Yuriba. She's been spotted as a variety of ages, ranging from child to elderly woman. The reliable constant is her wisdom and amiable nature.
Clues to Ling’s past
- Ling claims to have lived in Egypt, China, Russia, and Japan.
- Ling claims to be a bird, rather than a Magical Girl or human-hybrid.
- Lings claims to have been kept in a cage several times.
- Ling is oddly wise for a child or young adult (when taking those forms.)
- While distrustful of most strangers, Ling is especially wary of kitsune.
- Ling says that the goddess Kikoutei herself invited her to Yuriba (though it should be noted that Ling has a very active imagination, as evidenced by the soap opera daily enacted by her doll collection. She has made no such claim when in more adult forms.)
- Ling aged from three to forty from January to November. Then appeared as a child again during her return to the isle in early 2009.
Activities on Yuriba
Ling arrived on Yuriba during the winter months, claiming to have been carried there by a dragon friend of hers. Soon, she met Rostuto and then Sabriel, who took care of the little girl until she was mature enough to take care of herself. Rosuto and Ling put plans in forth to build a tailor shop later, but the plans feel apart when Ling's feathered friend decided to return home. The now teenage phoenix followed her home, seeking to protect her friend from the harsh culture that threw her out.
Luckily for Rosuto, the avariel found a place to settle down, but Ling felt she couldn't stay. She didn't belong in the Realms and soon felt ill, returning to Yuriba and recovering her strength by living in the woods with the native birds until she recovered. It wasn't long until she reunited with the wandering Sabriel and agreed to help the catgirl with her current projects.
Ling has recently discovered an old shrine to Kikoutei on Engetsu-san and is working on restoring it to be opened to the public.
Friends
- Rosuto- The first woman to gain Ling’s trust and the one who introduced her to Sabriel. She loves both Sabriel and Rosuto just as much, though had promised the elf first pick on dates when she ‘gets big.’ She escorted the elf back to her home on Toril, where Rosuto currently resides.
- Sabriel- Ling’s second close friend. She was introduced to the catgirl by Rosuto and has taken Ling on a few adventures exploring the island. Sabriel is also the sole contributor to Ling’s doll collection.
- Illistyl- Better known as ‘Myth,’ the woman was distrusted by Ling until recently due to her strange behavior. After after having learned a bit more about the woman. After a rocky start, she decided she can trust Myth and has recently started to call her a friend.
- Ella- A new friend Ling met during the Anniversary festival of 2009. Currently being around the same age, the two girls get along very well. Ling is particularly fond of Ella's puppy, Tuk.
- Meichen Long- Another new friend Ling made during the festival. She particularly enjoyed the tasty vegetable dishes Mei served at her booth.
- The Capsule Toys Collection- A collection of dolls given to Ling by Sabriel. As a child, they advised Ling on day-to-day activities. Currently, they have relocated from her pockets to a toy chest in her nest.
