An immigrant from the Yuriban Underhill in the spring of 2011, Mikazuki is a relatively young kitsune. She has a long history as a follower of Tsuki, and a shorter, not so well fated one as a priestess of Inishie. She has since renounced the volcano goddess and currently is unsure where her spiral will take her next.

Physical Appearance

Tall for either a native or an immigrant, Mikazuki looks rather like an old school femme fatale, although her swap to wearing her hair in a high ponytail in recent years has softened this somewhat. Typically, her expression supports this conceit, as she is prone to smug looks and sensual pouts, rarely seen to genuinely smile, although her pretty lips curve easily into a frown. Her form is healthy and charmingly curved and she seems to like to show it off. She is not just a black furred kitsune, with all the stereotypes suggest, but completely so; there is no tipping or other color to her fur.

History

Early Life

In the Village

Very shortly upon her arrival in the village, Mikazuki stumbled across Agrona and Temair and the trio recognized certain... dark sympathies with one another. While Mikazuki's smooth talking helped get the group together, quite quickly the more powerful personality of Temair came to dominate the group, and like any good followers of Inishie, they began to work to try and build towards the destruction of all that exists. With her pain and sadness over her loss turned to bitterness and anger, Mikazuki personally felt that doing so was a kindness, a way to break the world of a cycle that led to pain for many people.

The problem was, something would happen soon that would first subtly, then later profoundly shake the foundations of her belief. After the scheming trio had settled into a hidden cavern and begun dark rituals, Mikazuki happened across a catgirl one night as she snuck out to watch the ocean below the northern cliffs, something she found soothing. Teasing the woman and playing word games with her, Mikazuki half-followed, half-coaxed her into Inishie-san's valley and up the mountain. Her intentions had, without question, been dark - she meant to kill the girl and leave her body for the volcano goddess. But on the way, she indulged in a personal fascination, and got Sabriel to tell her a story... and it was spun well enough and true enough to her tastes, that she let the woman live, telling her that her tale had bought her her life and letting her return safely.

Anyone else probably would have avoided Mikazuki and her haunts after that. Sabriel, however, was clearly not normal or possessing of a typical sense of self-preservation. Each time they met, Mikazuki would demand a tale in return for the other woman's life, but slowly she came to respect and even like her as well. A budding friendship formed, even an attraction, and while the kitsune would still often ask for tales, her demands faded away as teasing became more serious discussion. She even disclosed what she was to her friend, and the two would argue philosophy and religion often. At first, Mikazuki clung to her convictions, but she eventually faced growing doubts and uncertainties, especially as the woman she'd grown to care for insisted that no, she did not think it was a good thing for Mikazuki to choose for her to end everyone's lives in hopes of a better one.

When Temair chanced to find out that Mikazuki had made a friend outside of the trio of plotters, the kitsune began to have to play a very careful balancing act, convincing her leader that she was still devout to the cause, so the woman wouldn't hunt down and slay Sabriel in punishment... or kill Mikazuki herself for her private waverings, which had to be carefully hidden. The balancing act of survival against acting in Inishie's interests continued for some time, with Mikazuki going so far as to severely wound Lilith to maintain the illusion, leading to the corruption Eimi Kozuka. Once the eruption came, however, her conscience won out; she fought primarily to try and keep the two women she'd harmed from gaining further injury, and when it proved impossible, she fled with Lilith in an attempt to at least preserve their lives.

In the wake of the eruption, Mikazuki spent over a year living in various isolated spots on the island, either old haunts shown to her by Sabriel or the ruins of the cave she'd lived in with her 'friends' the most common places for her to lay down her head. Incredibly paranoid and distrusting of the villagers, afraid to be killed or punished for her earlier allegiances, the stress further wore away at a woman who'd spent most of her life effectively playing a role instead of herself, either that of the tragic mourner or the deadly villainess. Without either mask to wear, she tended to flounder and be lost, worsened by the fact that her sister Abegweit arrived from Underhill. While it seems, at least, that her family is mercifully unaware of of her recent past, she can't quite say the same of others...

Specifically, Shizuru has managed to build a friendship with Mikazuki, the two having a certain dark moodiness in common. Their friendship isn't exactly terribly functional, especially given Mikazuki's seeming need to regularly needle and tease Shizuru, and Shizuru's rather more elegant manner of doing the same in reverse. Still, if nothing else, Shizuru has coaxed Mikazuki to tentatively re-enter some aspects of village life, and even to move into the same group household where she stays, that of Rockpath. Mikazuki's not really sure if Rockpath and her girlfriend Kenina are really her friends, but she's at least come to accept that they probably aren't going to stab her anytime soon, plus, they do help her tease Abegweit about her romance with Cecily, the kitsune glorying in teasing her sister by trying to push for nieces. It's a bit hard to tell if she really has any interest in such an occurrence, or she just finds it fun to turn her sister into a sputtering mass of indignation. Overall, being around other people has started to relax her a bit, but that's mostly just revealed that, in many ways, Mikazuki is an adult who's never really learned how to be fully functional, the kitsune often driven purely by impulse, mild malice, and insecurity, with all the social graces of a bull in a china shop as she attempts not to fall back into her prior roles.
